Ford called it the 90 (degree) “V” type engine, or the L-head V-8. Better known as the Flathead V8 by hot-rodder’s. 1949 – 1951 Lincolns were fitted with this 336.7 L-head V-8. Mercury’s from 1949 – 1953 had a smaller L-head V-8, the 255.4. Both engines are commonly used in classic 50s style hotrods today. - The 336.7 was originally designed for Ford Trucks.
