The impact of the two jets was devastating, smashing through the steel structure of the towers and igniting fires that eventually brought the buildings down. Warplanes took to the skies. Every nonmilitary flight in US airspace was ordered to land.

The Tear Drop Monument was donated by the Russian people in tribute to those lost on 9/11. The names of those lost are inscribed in the base similar to the Vietnam Wall in DC. The walkway is lined with stones donated by those in remembrance of this day. The site is directly across from the Statue of Liberty, and looking at that skyline, you truly do see what's missing.

The Teardrop Memorial - Bayonne, New Jersey. I had no clue this poignant memorial existed. It was a gift to America from the country of Russia and is dedicated "To the Struggle Against World Terrorism.
