One example of a creature from the Celtic Mythologies is the Banshee. It is a woman that predicts deaths by appearing and letting out a horrid shriek.

Banshees are Unseelie fae, and act as enforcers, bouncers, and even assassins. Their songs are laced with death curses and hexes. Anyone who hears a banshee song dies. It's only a question of when. Their true form is ghastly, but they can adopt far fairer forms if need be. They usually take Unseelie partners, but they often intermarry with other races.

Banshee, one of the most dreaded and best known of the Irish faeries is the Banshee, properly named the Beansidhe literally, "woman fairy." She visits a household and by wailing she warns them that a member of their family is about to die. When a Banshee is caught, she is obliged to tell the name of the doomed.

I love the idea of a hauntingly beautiful female spirit keening an ominious warning outside the home of someone who is near death, which is why I made a banshee my protagonist in After the Gloaming.

Banshee Legend...The story of the banshee began as a fairy woman keening at the death of important personages.[8] In later stories, the appearance of the banshee could foretell death. Banshees were said to appear for particular Irish families, though which families made it onto this list varied depending on who was telling the story. Stories of banshees were also prevalent in the West Highlands of Scotland.

Some significant design alteration, for my tastes, but the basic structure means is intriguing.

Ghosts were not bad, and Emily knew this. Though when the queen of the dead came to visit her in her dreams.she knew something was wrong.
