Kainuk was rescued in February 2011, found by tribesmen next to her mother who is suspected to have died due to harsh drought conditions. The emaciated calf was taken in by The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which publishes frequent updates about all their orphaned elephants. See how Kainuk is doing now: http://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/asp/orphan_profile.asp?N=243
