Italian battleship Roma. The fourth ship of the Vittorio Veneto class. Was sunk 9 September 1943 on route to Tunisia after the Italian armistice, by hits from two German Fritz X guided glider bombs. Her sister ship Italia (ex Littorio) was also damaged by Fritz X bombs, during the same incident. Italia made it to Tunisia.
German 11 inch battleship Scharnhorst: she saw much action in the war, finally being sunk at the Battle of North Cape on 26 December 1943 by a British task force led by the battleship HMS Duke of York. Only 36 of her crew survived.
