The Gospel of Matthew ends this way: "I am with you always, until the end of the age." (Matthew 28:20)  We can take these words of Jesus personally.  Through prayer, we can establish a relationship with Him.  However, during difficult times, it may seem as if Jesus has abandoned us.  Even though we have remained faithful to Jesus, we may no longer feel His presence.  Yet, in time, we realize that we were never alone.
