This shield was collected by John Atherton after whom the Atherton Tablelands in North Queensland are named. was made by the Rainforest peoples for young initiates. The designs come from natural animal and plant forms.
The front of one of a pair of Aboriginal shields from Nowra, NSW Displayed at the London International Exhibition, Entered by Henry Moss. Purchased by Henry Christy after the exhibition. Both were later gifted to the British Museum.
