Memsie Homestead, Bridgewater (179km NW of Melbourne) is situated on the banks of the Loddon River. The oldest part of the house is thought to date from 1841, with another section added in 1860 and the front section, of solid brick with weatherboard facing, in 1880. This part was designed by William Vahland, a German-born architect responsible for some of Bendigo's finest buildings, including the town hall and Shamrock Hotel. The homestead has been empty and derelict for over 20 years.
