Philip Guston one of the main artists in the 1960s that spearheaded the move from Abstract Expressionism to Neo-expresionism. I have to admit when I first saw Guston's paintings in the Art Institute growing up, I hated them. They gave me a sensation of itchy- uncomfort...I don't think the raw red meat colors he used helped at all. But later after doing research on him grew to respect his work and even found myself a bit facinated with him - his tramatic childhood- his cartoon like images…
