The Tempest tells an allegorical tale of magic, love and reconciliation, and the current production that Bell Shakespeare weaves on stage is nothing less than “such stuff as dreams are made on”. Weaving much of this magic is Matthew Backer in the role of the spirit Ariel. Arts Editor Kat caught up with Matt during the current season to discuss the production, working with the legendary John Bell, and how to bring life to the magical spirit creature of Shakespeare’s tempest-prone island.
