Sunshine Coast

There is no doubt about it that the best spot to watch the sunset on the Sunshine Coast is atop one of the Glasshouse mountains. Mt Ngungun is one of the easiest to climb, but that doesn't mean it's not as beautiful as the others. Go check it out!

Soph's Travel Diary: Roadtrip to Byron Bay - Adventures of Soph

Ah Byron Bay, one of the most picturesque & trendiest spots along the East Coast of Australia. Actually, I take that back. Probably in the whole of Australia! It’s really hit the tourist radar in the last few years and I can totally see why. It’s got a whole lot on offer and there really is something for everyone – solo travellers in particular. I’ve only been to Byron Bay once before and that was for a day trip in 2015. So when I found out that my favourite travel blogger ‘Wheres’ Mollie’…

Photo Diaries: Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

Photo Diaries: Plitvice Lakes, Croatia - Adventures of Soph

It’s no wonder Plitvice Lakes attracts up to a million visitors every year with its impeccable natural beauty. The Croatian UNESCO site is almost too good to be true, with 16 large lakes that cascade off into hundreds of rivers and streams, creating a sight which I once thought I could only dream of. Gaining access isn’t hard, but it does come at a cost, the first being the park entrance fee and the second, and ultimately the least appealing being the influx of tourists wanting the exact…

The most magical moment

The most magical moment - Adventures of Soph

England Winter expectations: beautiful white snow all day, every day. Reality: rain all day, every day. Well, almost… I had always thought that last year would be the year I finally got that white Christmas I always dreamt of. I mean, England is freeeezing and of course it snows, right? Well, I have news for you, not only did it not snow on Christmas day, but I actually ended up flying to Dubai on Christmas Eve to spend it with my parents. At first I was sad that I’d be missing out on waking…

Is walking the walls of Dubrovnik worth the price?

Is walking the walls of Dubrovnik worth the price? - Adventures of Soph

I came to Dubrovnik knowing that it was probably going to be the most expensive part of my travels, and boy was I right. In fact, the amount of money spent here was basically doubled of what I spent in parts of Slovenia, so even though it was expected, it still hit very hard, and even more so when we came to looking at the costs to walk the walls of Dubrovnik. I always think that the best way to get a feel for a town is from above, whether it be from a viewpoint or in most European…

How Sarajevo earned the name of ‘Soul City’

How Sarajevo earned the name of 'Soul City' - Adventures of Soph

**Disclaimer: I am actually writing this during my lecture on Contemporary Art as I was just too excited that I couldn’t wait for this evening’s free time. Setting my priorities right, that’s for sure. I’m going to be 100% honest with you all… I had never really ever heard of Sarajevo before a month or two before actually arriving. Yep, that’s right. I didn’t know that they held the 1984 Winter Olympics, the turmoil of war that broke out in Yugoslavia or even the Sarajevo siege that saw…

Why you should take on the highest mountain in The U.K

Why you should climb Mt. Snowdon - Adventures of Soph

After a few days spent sipping on pints and indulging in delicious pub meals, I felt that it was time to get some well needed exercise into my very relaxed body, and what better way to do so than climbing to the highest point in Wales. The 14km uphill journey took about 6 hours return, with about a 3 hour journey up to the top, 30 minutes to take it all in and then a steady 2.5 hours descent back to steady ground. There are plenty of tracks to choose from, all ranging in difficulty, thrill…

A Destination Guide for Dublin; the city oozing with history, Guinness and Leprechauns.

Destination Guide: Dublin - Adventures of Soph

Rain, hail or shine, the capital city of Ireland is sure not to disappoint. Good vibes, welcoming faces, and streets loathing in historical significance and downright beauty is what Dublin is all about (the fact that you can have whiskey for breakfast, lunch and dinner without judgement, is also pretty cool and ‘cultural’). Fortunately, I had four absolutely wonderful days here wandering the cobbled streets, basking under the willow trees in Europe’s largest city park and filling my very…

The Beauty of Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge, Northern Ireland.

The Beauty of Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge - Adventures of Soph

Fancy walking 30 metres above the cobalt calm Irish Sea? Look no further to one of the most scenic bridges I have ever stepped foot on: Carrick-A-Rede Bridge. Located in Ballintoy on the Northern Irish coast, the suspension bridge that currently stands has been opened since 2008, although it is believed that for 350 years, fishermen have created multiple bridges, formed with very little material so they could get over to the small island of Carrickarede. It was only in the recent years to…

61 valuable things that I have learnt from travelling

61 valuable things that I have learnt from travelling - Adventures of Soph

Home is a place that my heart resigns in, and for me, Leeds is home. I have a great sense of direction and can use maps like a boss. Air-conditioning is simply a luxury. Complaining gets you no where. Budgeting is very possible. Distance from family and friends makes you more appreciative for when you do get to see them. If you a miss a bus, you can usually get on the next one, free of any extra charge. Insect repellent is almost compulsory in Northern Thailand. Using a hose instead of…

Photographs of the most picture perfect country, Slovenia.

Slovenia is a picture-perfect postcard - Adventures of Soph

Slovenia captured all of my senses and definitely filled a gap in my heart. From the exquisite scenery to the friendly faces, there wasn’t a time spent in Slovenia where I was looking for more or was unsatisfied with my decisions. Most travellers flock to Lake Bled, for all of the right reasons, but there is so much to be seen outside of this tourist hotspot. Continue scrolling to fulfil your wanderlust, and maybe even get that Skyscanner tab open ready to book your next holiday destination…
