Coconut Caramel Custard - Quirky Cooking

1 review

Coconut caramel custard with bananas & macadamias A reader told me the other day that she had been searching everywhere for my coconut caramel custard recipe on Facebook but couldn’t find it… Well, we can’t have that! This is so yummy (and quick and easy) that it really needs to be on my blog […]

Making Spreadable Butter in the Thermomix - Quirky Cooking

I love being able to make my own butter and butter spreads! Most bought butter spreads have additives, preservatives and colours in them, and often contain vegetable oils. By using a good quality pure cream to make your own butter, then adding a good quality oil, you can have a delicious butter spread that’s […]

Salted Caramel Chocolates (dairy free) - Quirky Cooking

1 review

A few months ago I decided I needed a homemade version of Salted Caramel Chocolate that would be dairy free and soy free. I looooove salted caramel chocolates. So I raided my pantry drawer and freezer to see what I could make them out of (which is generally how my recipes begin!), and started blending up handfuls of […]

Dairy Free Raw Chocolate - Quirky Cooking

You may have noticed I’m a bit of a chocolate addict – good chocolate, that is, not the cheap ‘chocolate-flavoured’ stuff – I love REAL chocolate, with cacao butter and 70% organic cocoa and natural sweeteners. As I mentioned in my first post about making my own chocolate, I really try and avoid refined sugar, […]

Green Smoothies & Boost Juices - Quirky Cooking

I’m sitting here with the kids and their cousins, watching ‘Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead’. I love how the kids are totally fascinated with the difference that freshly juiced fruits and veges can make to a person’s health and well-being. The first time we watched this, Miss C (9 yrs old) decided she wanted to start drinking green juices. Before […]

Here’s an ice-cream recipe that is very quick and won’t make you feel guilty!!! It’s so healthy you can even eat if for breakfast – we do! It’s a great way to get the kids out of bed on a school day – just yell, ‘Chocolate ice-cream for breakfast!’ and they’ll come running. […]

Quirky Avocado Chocolate Mousse - Quirky Cooking

It's like chocolate cream only creamier. It's a mixture between a mousse and a semifreddo. The flavour actually reminds me of the Milo ice-cream I loved as a kid, only better! (Did you love that too?) So don't be put off by the quirky ingredients and lack of sugar - even the fussiest will love this one... unless they find out it has avocado in it - shhhh. ;-) And no, it's not just the usual vegan chocolate mousse made from avocado and cacao powder. It's quirkier. You'll see.

Quick & Easy Pancakes - 3 Ways - Quirky Cooking

Someone mentioned to me the other day that they love my Blender Batter Pancakes recipe, but that sometimes they’re in too much of a rush to do the whole ‘prepare the night before’ thing, and they needed a simple pancake recipe for times like that. I agree – I don’t always soak the grains the […]

Flourless Chocolate Brownie Cookies - Quirky Cooking

Need a chocolate fix? Well hold onto your tastebuds, these chocolate pecan cookies will knock your socks off!! I got the idea for these cookies from a recipe for ‘brownie cookies’ that used wheat flour, but I decided to try ground pecans instead. I’m always looking for ways to make gluten free (or even grain […]

Tomato Sauce (Ketchup) - Quirky Cooking

Homemade tomato sauce is very simple to make in the Thermomix, and contains a lot less sugar than the bought stuff, plus no preservatives and colours! Here’s how I make my sauce (or ‘ketchup’), which we use just as an everyday tomato sauce and also as a baking sauce for chicken, ribs, roast, meatloaf, etc. […]

Creamy Hot Chocolate (Dairy Free) - Quirky Cooking

The kids have been complaining about the wet, cold, miserable weather. (Why does it always come just in time for school holidays?) I told them, “It might be rainy outside, but it’s sunny inside!!”, and made them some of this rich, creamy Thermomix hot chocolate. It’s the perfect antidote to the wet, winter weather – makes […]

Creamy Quinoa & Chia Porridge - Quirky Cooking

Autumn is here, and it’s getting too cool for cold breakfasts of raw chia pudding and green smoothies. The other morning I was trying to think of something warm and comforting for breakfast while browsing through food photos on Instagram (as you do), and I noticed a photo of banana chia quinoa porridge that was posted by […]

Banana Nut-Butter Protein Shake - Quirky Cooking

This protein shake is a great pick-me-up when you’re finding it hard to get going in the morning; or a quick breakfast when you’re too rushed to have a sit-down meal. I don’t actually have too many sit-down breakfasts, except on holidays… I always seem to be eating on the run. The other day I even […]

Blender-Batter Muffins - Quirky Cooking

Blueberry Spelt Muffins This is the base recipe I use for my muffins, adding in berries, or nuts, or choc chips, or spices, or crumble topping, or whatever I feel like. It’s a very versatile and healthy recipe – gluten free (or low gluten, depending which grains you use), dairy free and naturally sweetened. You start […]

Raw Chocolate Truffles - Quirky Cooking

Raw Chocolate Truffles with Dried Cranberries Lately I’ve been craving these. I’m working hard this month to keep off sugars as much as possible, for my January Body Springclean Challenge! I’m only having a very small amount of natural sweeteners like fruit, dates, raw honey, pure maple syrup, yacon syrup, green stevia, and coconut sugar. That’s […]

Raw Creamy Strawberry Pudding - Quirky Cooking

This is the most DELICIOUS pudding ever – and it’s so healthy! Ruth over at the Thermomix Forum converted it from a recipe in the book Baby Greens: A Live-Food Approach for Children of All Ages. Thanks Ruth!! It’s kind of like a mixture between a pudding, and strawberry yoghurt. You can freeze the strawberries to […]
