The Colliery was situated in Over Hulton, North of Atherton, Lancashire. (Sunk in 1900, the Colliery was plagued with emissions of gas, particularly after roof falls.) The signal box controlled two passing loops, one on each side of the main double-track line, linking Glasgow and Carlisle.
