Manufacturing and engineering have contributed enormously to the development of Western Australia. Pipes were built for the Goldfields water supply scheme at Mephan Ferguson. Trains and large structures were built at the Midland Railway Workshops. Cigarettes and cigarette boxes were produced at the Michelides factory in Northbridge. Metters manufactured ovens, stoves and windmills in Wembley. Ralph Sarich created the orbital engine.
