Blackheart Sassafras (Atherosperma Moschatum) is one of Tasmania's most prized timbers. The colour contrast and figuring is matched only by a handful of northern hemisphere species. Coming a from a temperate rainforest environment, the grain tells stories of colonisation by various species of fungus while the tree is still living. Small New Guinea Rosewood Bowl | Etsy
Good things come in small packages. New Guinea Rosewood is a very fine timber with gorgeous golden red tones and endgrain characterised by swirling, interlocked dark lines. It is fast becoming one of my favourites to work with, and the fragrance when cut is sweet and floral. This little bowl was wet-sanded to 1200 grit and finished with foodsafe natural Tung Oil. 135mm diameter and 44mm in height, with an approximate wall thickness of 4mm.
