Surfing requires a strong core. All movements require a strong core. If you are moving without a strong core, neighboring areas (such as your hips or lower back or shoulders) will compensate for lack of tension in your system. This means they will either loosen up or tighten up unnecessarily and your body will leak force. This exercise will work core strength from many angles. The iliopsoas is a major hip flexor comprised of the iliacus and the psoas major. The psoas major attaches to the lumbar spine, transverse processes and invevertebral discs.
