A Cautionary Tail - the app. Once again the film itself is stunning. I haven't shared this one with my kids... yet. I'm waiting until Fien is a bit older and better able to appreciate the message: celebrating our individuality despite pressure to conform. The story is refreshingly original and narrated in an Australian accent. I love this, and recommend it for anyone.

A Cautionary Tail - the app

The Award-Winning Animated Short Film ‘A Cautionary Tail’ Is Now An Interactive Book For The iPad

Animalia for iPad - $3.99. What is not to love about this gorgeous app. Featuring all the original artwork from the much loved books, there are loads objects and Graeme himself to find on each page. Lots of fun using the zoom feature too. There are a couple more mysteries and puzzles to solve as well. Really fabulous and (nostalgic) fun for all ages.

Beautiful illustrations, read it, play a game, abc sounds that will make you smile.

Sago Sago - Apps for Toddlers and Preschoolers. Forest Flyer... Fly robin around the forest to find lots of fun little interactions and activities. Very cute, very easy. Tijs loves this one.

Sago Mini Pet Cafe - another one from the Sago Sago stable that Tijs loves. No in-app purchases and super simple navigation. Bright and colourful fun and games.

WWF Together App for iPad. This is amazing, a bit tricky for kids alone, so one to enjoy together. It gives great little pieces of info about endangered animals, and of course, exceptional wildlife photography. Only downfall is that it is not metric, ie. units are in miles and pounds. New animals are being added all the time, and you can even vote to choose the next animal. Great alternative to bedtime stories! And it's free!

Sprinkle Junior. Tijs thinks he's having fun, I think he is problem solving and picking up a little bit of physics on the way. Basically you direct a water canon to overcome obstacles, solve puzzles and put out fires. There's no time limits and an unlimited water supply so more fun for littlies than the advanced version "Sprinkle". 30 different levels ensure it doesn't get old. Great on your iPhone as a diversion when the queue at the checkouts is halfway to Africa. For him as well.

Gullible New Parent: 5 Great iPad Apps for Toddlers

Doodlecast by Sago Sago. So there are a million and one drawing apps on the market, this one is unique in that it records your child's drawings and voice while they create, so you can save and play back the videos. It's shareable too, so a real hit with far away grandparents. It has over 30 idea prompts to get them started. Both Fien and Tijs like this one.✏

La Luna: The Story Project This Disney Pixar animated short film is an absolute delight. The app has three versions of the story; the animated film, a narrated interactive video, and a storybook version you can read together. The story is gold, the imagery whimsical, and the production seamless. Fien also enjoyed the "behind the scenes" options to show how the animations and sound effects were created. This is one Disney film I have no qualms letting my kids watch. ❤☺
