Four Horsepersons of the Shopping Mall oil on canvas; 61 cm x 76 cm; November 2014 "...And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and her name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with swung Yves St. Laurent handbags, and with PaleoDiet, and boring us all with pronouncements of deathly vapidity, and making garments of all the beasts of the earth."

Saatchi Art: Four Horsepersons of the Shopping Mall Painting by Elizabeth Barsham

One of a series of paintings of the souls of abandoned machinery wandering lost and forlorn in a ruined landscape. These paintings come from my abiding interest in industrial archaeology, the marks and relics left on the landscape by human activity. I love the colours and patterns of rusted metals and am fascinated by the way discarded mining and agricultural equipment gradually weathers away and disintegrates back into the soil.
