The Windsor Workshop, "Stories of Us" Exhibition for the ASRC. Artwork by Nidhal, 2017 Charcoal Portraits, Joy And Happiness, Windsor, Workshop, Graphic Design, Creative, Artwork, Painting, Color

'Joy', Nidhal, Member of ASRC

Nidhal is a Graphic Designer by trade and has also spent time lecturing at a university level in Arts and Science. Her creativity often takes the form of charcoal portraits of those near and dear to her. However on this occasion she has been able to express herself in colour and in her words ‘bring joy and happiness to the piece’. Nidhal’s cheeky sense of humour is evident in this bright composition. (Taken from an interview with Nidhal at one of the ASRC's Art Therapy sessions)…

The Windsor Workshop, "Stories of Us" Exhibition for the ASRC. Artwork by Lala, 2017 Windsor, Workshop, Symbols, Artwork, Gold, Art Work, Atelier, Work Of Art, Auguste Rodin Artwork

'Freedom', Lala, Member of the ASRC

As a passionate embroiderer, Lala was very enthusiastic to contribute to our ‘Stories of Us’ exhibition. Her untitled piece, ‘’ consists of a myriad of symbols and figures to visually describe memories of the past, as well as gestures of gratitude for her new life in Australia. She gives reference to the circle, of being trapped inside and the act of trying to ‘break the cycle’. Golden beads stitched together to form a warm and inviting floral posy, are almost like an invisible act…

The Windsor Workshop, "Stories of Us" Exhibition for the ASRC. Artwork by Maria Flores, Say Hola, 2017 Windsor, Workshop, Shapes, Artwork, Fabric, Inspiration, Flowers, Life, Art Work

'Mi Vida', Maria Flores / Say Hola

In a conceptual sense, this piece allows me to visually speak the truths of my life (Mi Vida). My sense of self has been strongly inspired by ideas, feelings, people and lessons, represented by the variegated shapes and random forms on the fabric. Some shapes are brilliantly animated and others are uninhabited and faded; this is the equilibrium, the yin and the yang that we often seek to feel complete and fulfilled. Messages hidden throughout the piece are my inner dialogue - positive…

The Windsor Workshop, "Stories of Us" Exhibition for the ASRC. Artwork by Full Tilt Nanna, 2017 Tilt, Windsor, Coin Purse, Workshop, Take That, Artwork, Art Work, Atelier, Work Of Art

'Evil Eye', Full Tilt Nanna

My dad and our extended family are from Greece, where it is traditional to wear or hang the "evil eye" or "mati" around your house to ward off any curses that might be bestowed upon you. My mum is from unknown, Anglo background. And when I was born, both my parents rejected the religious traditions ofthe Orthodox Church and did not christen me. The idea of the Mati was ridiculed by them as hocus pocus. But, I grew up in a house full of superstition: where you weren't allowed to cross…

The Windsor Workshop, "Stories of Us" Exhibition for the ASRC. Artwork by Philippa A Taylor, 2017 Cotton Rope, Hand Coloring, Basket Weaving, Delicate, Ceramics, Stitch, Create, Windsor, Artwork

'Woven', Philippa A Taylor

The story behind this work. Reflects my ongoing investigation into my two craft practices of ceramics and weaving and how they influence and inform each other. An ever evolving practice. The delicate basket weave stitches in cotton and paper yarn connect with their porcelain counterparts. Combining the honest utility of weaving with the elegance and purity of porcelain, focuses on creating a material connection between strength and fragility. There are fragility and strength in us all…

The Windsor Workshop, "Stories of Us" Exhibition for the ASRC. Artwork by Santiago Sunbird, 2017 Learning To Embroider, Native Australians, Painted Leaves, Business Fashion, Windsor, Workshop, Artwork, Saint James, Art Work

'Puro Utz', Santiago Sunbird

This collaborative piece combines elements drawn from generations of Hankinson women. Sarah and I, (the sister duo of Santiago Sunbird), as little girls would spend hours trawling through the hundreds of jars full to the brim of sequins and beads belonging to Mum's textile and fashion business. It seemed only natural to draw on these memories and to utilise the remnants of vintage beads and sequins passed down from Great Gran, to Mum, and then to us for this project. ‘Puro Utz’ by…

The Windsor Workshop, "Stories of Us" Exhibition for the ASRC. Artwork by Kyashi Writes, 2017 Hand Lettering Practice, Life Affirming, Creative Workshop, You Are Enough, Thought Process, Windsor, Coin Purse, Writing, Stitch

'You are Enough', Kyashi Writes / Cathy Sison

As a Typography Artist, Kyashi Writes, I receive a dozen requests each day to write someone’s best-loved, positive, life affirming quote. ‘You are Enough’ is up there with the most desired quotes; the words are simple enough, but the meaning can sometimes be lost or dismissed. For me, it resonates with my work, how I live my life and a constant reminder not to compare or shadow my being with any negative thought processes. This piece is independent to my everyday hand lettering…

The Windsor Workshop, "Stories of Us" Exhibition for the ASRC. Artwork by Madeleine Stamer, 2017 Dealing With Loss, Decorative Plates, Windsor, Tableware, Floral, Workshop, Artwork, Madeleine, Art Work

'Ode to You', Madeleine Stamer

My painted hoop symbolises my journey as an artist dealing with loss and grief. The florals are a representation of self, family, friends, colleagues and community. Without my inner circle I would not heal, I could not flourish. It is an ode to the healing process, a homage to my tribe. Materials: Synthetic polymer

The Windsor Workshop, "Stories of Us" Exhibition for the ASRC. Artwork by Warped Threads, 2017 Instagram Worthy, Weaving Techniques, Silk Fabric, Windsor, Hand Weaving, Workshop, Artwork, Art Work, Atelier

'As Within, So Without', Warped Threads

'As Within, So Without’ is the ever-changing nature, of not just our work, but also of ourselves. The break-away from traditional hand weaving techniques has allowed us to follow a more intuitive approach to our work and in turn, allows us to grow within ourselves as people. The freedom we find within our creativity also informs our everyday lives and this is possibly the most precious gift our inspiring community of makers has shown us. Says Courtney of Warped Threads, "being creative…

The Windsor Workshop, "Stories of Us" Exhibition for the ASRC. Artwork by Ramona Barry, 2017 Finding Peace, Windsor, Workshop, Artwork, Art Work, Atelier, Work Of Art, Auguste Rodin Artwork

'You Are Here', Ramona Barry

Firmly planted in middle age with growing children, ageing parents, illnesses, job changes, ambitions reached and failed, disappointments, love and loss. There is a sense that there is more behind me than ahead so it has become increasingly important to be in the moment and to find peace in the present. The Roman philosopher Seneca said ‘The greatest obstacle to living is expectancy, which hangs upon tomorrow and loses today. You are arranging what lies in Fortune’s control, and…

The Windsor Workshop, "Stories of Us" Exhibition for the ASRC. Artwork by Peaches and Keen, 2017 Coin Purse, Peaches, Windsor, Artworks, Workshop, Group, Beautiful, Atelier, Art Pieces

'A Botanical Calamity Story', Peaches and Keen

A walk around the garden or an adventure in the forest is the starting point for our practice. With this piece we decided to create a more permanent version of our ephemeral botanical calamity photographic artworks. These artworks are usually collected and dissected pieces of flora which are carefully arranged and then photographed. As nothing is glued and the plants quickly start to shrivel, we tend to blow away the arrangement once we've captured the image. This end process also…

The Windsor Workshop, "Stories of Us" Exhibition for the ASRC. Artwork by Sarah Hankinson, 2017 Green With Blue, Lush Green, Shades Of Green, Forest Bathing, Windsor, Art Pieces, Workshop, Artwork, Art Work

'A Slow Walk', Sarah Hankinson

‘A Slow Walk’ embodies a connection with the self and with nature. On a personal level, it’s a reminder to ‘stop and smell the roses’, to be in the moment, and to notice the fleeting moments in what we often describe as a hustle bustle world. It speaks for the need to slow down and be more mindful on a daily basis. I’m particularly drawn to the concept of shinrin-yoku (forest bathing), which is a Japanese form of healing by spending time wandering through trees and nature. I dedicate…
