Of the three books of Edward Rutherford's I have included in here, this one has been the slowest for me. That may be more to do with what else is happening in my life, but his books create a great sense of understanding of what the city has gone through to become what it is today.

I am guilty of sticking to an author when I have enjoyed an earlier book. I love Anthony Bourdain but I worked in restaurants so I understand the dirty minds of chefs and their desire to create. You may of seen his shows, but like most people he started in a kitchen. Then came writing. Then the show. His writing is raw and honest. You will want to go where he goes, but maybe with added comfort!

Go girl power... before it was even a thing right? This book is not only about bubbles but about an incredibly strong and independent woman in a time when woman didn't do what she was doing. Obviously set in France and Champagne, with adventures to Russia, if you are not booking balloon flights over the cellar door, I'm not sure how else to get you there. This is a great read.

I love reading about Paris. Every book I read takes me along the Seine in my mind as I eat a wonderful pastry. This is an easy read - perfect for a plane. I do question if it is not a tad outdated with the acceptance of French men having affairs. I know some French men who do not have lovers and if they did, more fool them as their wives are hot!

Didn't you always want to be a flight attendant? Didn't it always sound very exotic and so exciting to be always travelling. I have just picked this up and can't wait to hear all the tales.

Confessions of a Qantas Flight Attendant: True Tales and Gossip from the Galley

This book is a fascinating story of an Australian woman who marries a French man. This book is the tale of her both adapting and rejecting her new French life. It's funny and warm.

I'm sure you've read it - if not. Read it. Ifyou have seen the movie. Read It. I am going to read it again.

I have to admit I'm shocked to learn that Frances Mayes will soon be celebrating her anniversary at Bramasole!

hilarious and informative account of a 1983 journey to the center of Borneo, an expedition not attempted since 1926, This is a funny book.

Purely the foodie side of a New York visit - but is that not one of the key reasons to visit?

Shannon Bennett's New York: A Personal Guide to the City's Best

An oldie but a must read. Who hasn't dreamt of romance in southern France.

I'm a broken record telling everyone to read 4 of one authors books. Yep... can't get enough of him.

Another Bourdain. Food is so integrally a reason to travel that I think you will be inspired to travel from his kitchen adventures.

After twenty-five years of 'sex, drugs, bad behaviour and haute cuisine', chef and novelist Anthony Bourdain has decided to tell all.

He is a bit of an adventurer but he will inspire you to feel while you travel if nothing else. Get off the track and feel where you are.

A Cook's Tour: In Search of the Perfect Meal by Anthony Bourdain (Paperback,

Being a foodie, I have dreamt of going here. Unfortunately I never will but I certainly loved reading this book. Spain is definitely on my list of places to visit based on the imagination and descriptions of the food and the area in this book.

I do realise I read a lot about Paris. This story is a wonderful book from the other side of the story.

The Paris Wife by Paula McLain. The heart-wrenching story of ambition and betrayal that captures the love affair between two unforgettable people: Ernest Hemingway and his first wife Hadley

Paris is for walking. I have on previous trips not had an itinerary but simply got up early and walked each day. I have found off the beaten track bars and cafes, parks and other lovely finds. This book not only brings back all my memories of experience all that is Paris but points out some new things for me to find. You will love this book.
