West of Mackay, call in at Wazza's Platypus Bush Camp, west on the Finch Hatton Gorge Rd. Nearby is Finch Hatton National Park, which has a swimming hole and a waterfall. There's also a shallow platypus pool and another swimming hole downstream.
About 20 kilometres north of Mackay and nestled between two rocky headlands, this relatively unknown beach is part of the Cape Hillsborough National Park. Often frequented by a troop of resident ‘roos, the beach can get up to 200 metres wide at low tide.
Just outside of Mackay you’ll find the rainforest paradise of Finch Hatton Gorge within Eungella National Park. There are plenty of scenic bushwalks in the area that lead to waterfalls and rock pools to go swimming in
